The City of Oakland, Oregon was founded in 1852 and was incorporated in 1878. Oakland was the first town in Oregon to enact a historic preservation ordinance. In 1979 the town was the first to be listed by the National Register of Historic Places as a historic district. The City of Oakland is governed by a Mayor and four Councilors. The Council meets at City Hall the 1st Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. and the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m.

Jan Wier, Councilor
Jan was elected to Council in 2010. She wants to see Oakland become a place for people to call home, to become a desirable, attractive, and cohesive community. She has lived in Oakland since 2007 after she fell in love with the city during a 1990 visit. She has been volunteering since age 18 and serves on several local commissions.
